A specialist waterproofing and timber treatment company active across the South-East of England has recently completed the tanking of a large basement structure for an individually designed residential property close to Crawley in Sussex, continuing the company’s long-term relationship with Wykamol as its main supplier of high-performance systems essential to offering its clients peace of mind, fully supported by insurance backed warranties.
Advance Property Preservation, which has its premises in Uxbridge, undertook all of the design work on behalf of the main contractor, to ensure the full protection of the 240 m2 basement which is dug into a challenging sloping site, with high groundwater levels. The solution the company proposed in its tender makes use of Wykamol’s Sureproof Ultra to tank the underside of the floor slab and the 230m2 wall area, which is formed of Stepoc system blockwork and part-poured concrete infill. The bonded waterproofing is then covered by the CM8 geotextile membrane which acts as a drainage layer as well as offering physical protection.

The groundwater flow is routed via land drains around the base of the walls to a soakaway in the gardens to the rear of the property. Internally, the structure is being coated with an anti-lime treatment followed by the Hydradry Tanking Slurry, with fillet seals applied around all of the junctions. Once cured, high loadbearing insulation is installed, while CM8 and CM20 cover the walls and floor area: serving to direct any moisture captured into Aquachannel drains installed at the base of the wall. These then discharge via Wykamol-Triton pump-sets.
The Founder of Advance Services, Simon Wotton, commented: “We were already known to both the main contractor and the developer from a previous job and were invited to submit a tender for all of the waterproofing work to the structure, which took us a total of three weeks to complete, over a number of visits to suit progress on the structure itself. The programme was of course dependent to an extent on the weather, as on an open site like this the low temperatures can cause delays. However, as normal we got great support from Wykamol and the products are really reliable.”
Sureproof Ultra comprises a very stable polyethylene film offering a consistent reaction to longitudinal and transverse forces, having been developed for the waterproofing of basements, foundations, walls and flat or ventilated roof structures. The self-adhesive material is self-sealing and forms an effective barrier against methane and radon while being resistant to chemicals and physical damage. As well as being ideal for protecting concrete and masonry, Sureproof Ultra is also compatible with metal substrates.
The BBA approved Wykamol-Triton CM8 and CM20 Waterproofing Membranes – manufactured from high density polyethylene - are routinely specified as an extra layer of protection for the walls and floors of cellars and basements, with their studded form allowing any water to be directed into perimeter channels and then a sump, which is automatically emptied by an electric pump with back up unit. The Wykamol Group is able to offer project specific guidance including site support where necessary, while its website offers comprehensive technical information on the entire Wykamol-Triton range. www.wykamol.com
